One of A&E’s newest grantees, Rise Community Development, will host its annual Rise Up Festival tomorrow, Saturday August 20. Beginning at 2pm on downtown’s Washington Avenue, this one-day street festival brings a public face to the revitalization efforts that help improve the city and gives St. Louisans a free event to celebrate the community they live in. Rise Up Festival will hold performances from local musicians, display local artwork and offer food from the St. Louis downtown restaurant association. Featured acts and attractions are as follows:

Music

The Original Wailers and Al Anderson will headline the festival, performing material from their 2012 EP Miracle as well as hits from their timeless classic Legend. Other musical groups set to take the stage are Dr. Zhivegas, Seven Bridges Road, Fortunate Sons (formerly CC Revival) and Platinum Rock Legends.

Yoga

Get your yoga on before the Festival with Yoga Buzz’s FREE all-level yoga class at 12:30pm on the Festival grounds. Instructed by Yoga Buzz’s Elle Potter and Mindful Movements’ Jamie Austin, the class is the perfect way to zen-out before the night’s festivities.

Artists on the Rise

This year’s artist showcase features emerging St. Louis artists and will be managed by Cultural Festivals: founders and managers of the St. Louis Art Fair. Artists Megan Wolz, Joao Paulo Scigliano, Stacy Krieg, Lynn Lees, Kyle Braun, Jesse Cargas, Briana Isom-Brummer, Heather Holland-Daly, Darra Fenner, Briana Dailey, Artists First, Allison Norfleet Bruenger, and Ocean Alexander will have their work featured in the showcase.

The Rise Up Marketplace

Last but not least, Rise Up Festival will have a number of local food offerings including Snarf’s Sandwiches, Pica-Di-Yo, Alpha Brewing Company, St. Louis Kettle Corn and many more.
