Maritz Receives 2011 Excellence in Grantmaking Award

The Arts and Education Council wants to congratulate Maritz for winning a 2011 Excellence in Grantmaking Award. The Gateway Center for Giving awarded Maritz the “Giving is on Time” Award for the Maritz Arts and Education Fund for Teachers program, which provides grants for education projects in individual schools and nonprofit education organizations in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

“We are thrilled that Maritz’s exceptional effort to provide area schools with much needed funds for arts education is being recognized,” said Council President Cynthia A. Prost. “The grants gave students throught the St. Louis area the opportunity to participate in a variety of arts programs ranging from musicals to poetry.”

In collaboration with the Arts and Education Council, Maritz has provided $16,000 in funds for six arts education projects in the St. Louis bi-state region. Grant winners include Good Shepherd Catholic School, McCluer High School, Nerinx Hall High School, Springboard, Sumner High School and Walbridge Elementary Community Education Center.

The “Giving on Time” Award recognizes grantmakers who provide funding to meet the immediate needs of nonprofits and clients in the community, or worked closely with a nonprofit to help them realign their programs and strategies to better meet the needs of their clients and the community during these difficult economic times.

Arts and Education Council – Since 1963, the Arts and Education Council has raised over $100 million in private funding for the arts – an important task that directly affects the quality of life of our 16-county, bi-state region. With those funds, the Council annually assists approximately 70 nonprofit arts and arts education organizations.
