About the Grantee

The second-oldest orchestra in the country, founded in 1880, today’s St. Louis Symphony serves upward of 260,000 individuals through live performances, including more than 200,000 patrons who experience orchestral concerts at Powell Hall. Our Classical series balances traditional favorites with contemporary repertoire, while our Live at Powell Hall pop specials feature films with live scores, rock tributes and award-winning guest vocalists. Other series feature longstanding collaborations, such as our New Music Series at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, while Education and Family concerts often feature cross-disciplinary partnerships with other arts/culture organizations. Beyond Powell Hall, our free education and community engagement programs serve more than 40,000 individuals in a 125-mile radius of St. Louis. These free programs include multiple chamber concert series and targeted programs including: in-school musician residencies through Symphony In Your School; performances in hospitals, nursing homes and prisons through SymphonyCares; specialized welcome programs for new Americans through Music Without Boundaries; and our long-standing diversity program, IN UNISON, which includes artistic mentorships and music scholarships for young people in the community. Finally, as an ambassador for our city and industry, we reach more than 500,000 people through tours, recordings and television and radio broadcasts, the latter of which are streamed globally online.
